in poverty are in “persistent” poverty.
(ie, below the poverty line in at least 2 of the last 3
years)
THE SOLUTION? –
UNIVERSAL CREDIT
May 2019 – 1,759000
people claimed Universal Credit.
Of these, 59.57% had
deductions made.
Of these, 19.65% had
deductions of more than 20% of their payment often to repay loans made during
the 5 week wait period!
